the migration period swords (and Pommels) in norwich museum
hello forumites, i have been looking into composite hilted swords from far and wide and have decided to attempts an amalgamation of some from east anglia is there anyone who would possibly know the where to get the scale and dimensions of the cocked hat pommels from within norwich castle museum, they are a bit far back to measure and awkward to see so any help would be greatly appreciated, i also promise that one the sword is complete that pictures will be posted, thank you in advance!
There are three Migration Period swords on display in Norwich museum, from Spong Hill, Bergh Apton and Feltwell, none of which have surviving pommel caps.
The only loose cap I can remember seeing there (in early 2010) was this one, from Mileham, which is 23.5mm long, 12mm wide and 11.5mm thick (you can see the PAS entry here:- http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/247202)
