i have a cold steel italian longsword i love the sword i just am not crazy about the high polished hilt and pommel, i am looking for ideas on simple easy to do and hard to screw up ways to give the fittings a nice aged look. any suggestions are appreciated.

If the fittings were brass, a spray bottle full of ammonia would do the trick. Steel is more difficult since it takes a very long time to get an aged blackened look and not just a rusty pitted neglected look.

yeah i know the fittings are steel and very highly polished
