windlass Ulfberht sword blade
hello,
i am wondering what style of blade this is. i know it is a type x, but i would like to know if it is a specific style (subcategory). also if there are other swords with similar blade styles.
Hi,

This is an X blade as opposed to Xa. Those are the only sub-categories of X. I would also call it a Geibig type 3.

If you mean, are there more like this historically? Yes.

Here's one place to start: http://www.myArmoury.com/feature_geibig.html
Some extremely similar swords are depicted in period art, as illustrated in Oakeshott's earlier books.
Ian Pearce's book 'Swords of the Viking Age' describes this particular sword in more detail.

Or do you want to know if there are more like this commercially available?

Is this the blade with the odd etching immitating inlay?
