Should the two of us happened to be picked, Sean Flynt shall be my nemesis. Laughing Out Loud Razz Wink I mean that with the utmost respect and good humor, of course. I'm stoked for this one no matter how it plays out. The way I look at it is worst case scenario, I get to see how all the kits turn out for all the contestants picked. It's a win no matter what. Good luck to all who entered, and thanks again to Tod for the opportunity! Cheers guys!!! Big Grin

I'm already researching historical originals for eating utensils.
If I get to participate I aim to win that most drool-worthy dagger and purse! Happy

Here's a thought: Few of us clamoring for a chance in this contest will get that chance, but many of us are already researching ideas. Those of us who aren't selected should resolve to buy one of Tod's kits this year, finish it with the same time restrictions, then send photos to Tod and post in this or another thread. That serves Tod's purpose, creates content for this site and pushes folks to the workbench.

Since I like working with metal more than working with other materials if I am not chosen for this contest I will make the entire knife myself Razz This contest indeed pushes people to the workbench. I am a little busy with my pollaxe right now, but this contest inspired me to finally fix the handle that started to come off on one of my self-made knives (which also happens to be my favorite knife for wood working).

Clearly I fully support this idea!

Seriously though I really ran this to get a bit more traffic to my facebook page and really to see what people can do, so I will happily enjoy any others pieces that appear in this thread, but all I would ask is that you let the competition run its course before posting up your 'entries' really nice idea though Sean.

Hi all,

Thanks for the response, it has been great.

I wil not be able to draw the winners of the kits tomorrow, so I will in fact make the draw tonight and will post up the names of thefirst stage winners later on.

Good luck

It turns out I have a rather busy day today too; so I will layout some of the details now with the name draw later.

The 5 winners of this stage should email me and choose one of the blade types from my kit page http://www.todsstuff.co.uk/theenglishcutler/k...knives.htm I will try to supply a blade as close to their prefference as possible. They can also choose from wood scales (name type), bone or light or dark horn. Wood will be easier to use. The wood available is box, blackthorn, holly, lace wood, elm, ash, pear, walnut

They can also specify, copper, brass or steel rivet material and whether they want any other bits of material for bolsters etc.

This level of customisation is not generally available for the kits, but this is a special occassion!

I will need the full addresses of the winners and I will post the kits out early next week. I will be happy to answer questions as they work, but please bear in mind I will also have to get on with my work.

Good luck to you all and I will let you know toward the end of the day.

It figures! 1 in 8 chance of winning, and no luck. I'd have better chance if there were millions of contestants (since Discworld magicians have calculated that million-to-one chances crop up nine times out of ten)...

Extant 15th century Milanese armour

Congratulations to the winners! I was not among them, of course, but I've just put in my order for kit #3 and a buckle, which offsets 1/5 of the initial prize. Big Grin I've wanted to do this for awhile but the contest pushed me over the edge. Thanks for an inspiring challenge, Tod!
