Commentary

The blade has a bold profile, its extra-wide base tapering dramatically towards the tip. It is a sturdy
blade, reflecting a superb balance between stability and resiliency. The edge is very sharp. The blade surface has been polished to a fine satin finish.

The guard, made of mild steel (blackened), is an elegant type 9 with nicely rounded quillons. Its shape complements well with single-hand straight blades, certainly this one.

The grip has an oval octagonal cross-section and feels comfortable in hand. The leather is of fine quality, exquisitely wrapped to showcase the cord and bands underneath. The seam is finished to an exacting tolerance.

The pommel is an Odin signature fish-tail design. Seeing it in three dimensions, I tend to think of it as an abstract interpretation of the ubiquitous 15th century pear-shaped pommel. This rendition is full of complexity in detail, with flaring lines and subtle curves. The blackening of the steel adds depth by enhancing the contrast between shadow and light.

In the hand, this sword reveals an immediate presence, a sort of gravitas. The distinct feel of its grip, the superb balance of its weight, and the striking profile of its blade all come into synergy.
