The only good thing about MRL has been their return policy. I've never had a problem getting a refund on a returned item, however, it's hard to return something when you've never received it to begin with.

Hmmm. Just a thought - is this a problem with Windlass Steelcrafts or just the MRL distributors?

Bummer..... By The Sword carries these items too. I have only dealt with them twice, but both instances have been an absolute pleasure. http://www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/Spears___Poles.html

Yes, due to this experience I cancelled another order with MRL and placed it with By The Sword instead. MRL has seen the last of my business.

Word of mouth advertising is one of the most powerful, and it works in the negative possibly moreso than in the positive. Never done business with MRL personally, but I won't either. On the other hand, the once I did do buisness with BTS, I found it very simple, with good customer service.

The aggravating thing is that this is a pretty small affair. MRL's stance seems to be "we sent it out and we already have your money so we don't care". They could easily mail out another butt cap as a gesture of good will. I don't think it would bankrupt them.

Patrick;
This may not apply to your butt cap if it wasn't sent ensured: When one package I was waiting for seemed very late in coming the vendor told me that if I still hadn't received it after a month after the shipping date they would make a claim to their insurance and send a replacement to the order. The only thing I would have to do is send them a fax or letter stating that I had never received the package. The 30 day delay was a requirement of the insurance company.
Now I did finally received the package so making an insurance claim wasn't needed.
In my case the delay was probably caused by slow Canada Customs clearance.
Anyway, if the package is insured this should work with any vendor who will at least take the effort to make a claim to their insurance company.
Hope this info can be of general use even if it does not do much in your case.
You can easily give up your freedom. You have to fight hard to get it back!

So far no butt cap, and no satisfaction from the apathetic woman on the other end of the phone at MRL. I'm starting to think I've been ripped off to the tune of $28.95. Thank goodness it wasn't a large purchase. It definitely makes me reconsider doing any business with MRL or Atlanta Cutlery in the future. |
Hey Patrick, PM me with the details and I will contact a friend of mine that runs their wholesale department. I am sure that he can find out what happened and might be able to get you a replacement sent.

Patrick,
You're right, MRL does have a good return policy but just about everything else about them leaves much to be desired. Remember their "Ravenna sword?" A few years ago, I ordered one over the phone but they said it was out of stock. They asked me if I wanted them to back-order it; I said 'sure' after they said my CC wouldn't be charged until the sword came in. They said they would send me a postcard if they were to receive one in a shipment.
Two weeks goes by (no postcard) and I decided I didn't want the sword, so I called them back and told them to cancel. They agreed, so that was it, right? Well, guess what shows up at my front door about ten days after that? A big white box -- and guess what was inside!
I kept the sword for a few days (had to play with it for awhile, you know ) before sending it back to them and getting my money back. Weird, huh? I'm sorry to learn of your ordeal with the buttcap. Did you ever get that straightened out? Sounds like they could learn a thing or two from Mike Sigman! -Ted
