Well, I found the original in, of all places, John Wallace's Scottish Swords and Dirks, the very first book on the subject that I bought way back in the last century. Here are two photos of the sword - and one of a cup and ring hilt - that must be the inspiration for the Armour Class swords. I guess my diligent search wasn't diligent enough. Any way, here are two views, one from the side and one from the front of the basket.
Any comments?

And therein lies the problem for me, Lin. The general shape is the same, but when you really compare the two, there are significant differences in the form and sizing is too great for me. The pommel on the AC is very different than I'd expect. The overall proportions are a bit strange to me and the general shape is troubling. None of the things stand out to me as being bad, but they do stand out as being off.

Nathan...I agree that it is off from the original. My one concern is the size of the basket. I have large hands and I also have a couple of older model basket hilts which swallow those hands. There is, I think, a tendency among modern makers to make larger hilts on the theory that modern hands are larger, something alluded to earlier and which, like you, I find to not be the case. I think original basket hilts probably did fit the users' hands more snugly than we think. I believe I can live with the pommel and the other differences without issue. My choice of finish would be browning or bluing, with the darker finish perhaps hiding some of the sins.
Any way, I am close to a decision and appreciate all the input. You guys are sword guys; I am a gun guy who likes to have a few swords around. Everything has been helpful.

One size fits all? 
Lin, I suggest you send AC an e-mail asking about the basket size versus the size of your hand. I have a friend in the UK who's got very big hands and his AC basket hilt (which is the same model as the one you're looking at) is a bit bigger then the standard size. I can almost use it as a hand and a half.
