Gambesons for women
So I'm looking for a gambeson for longsword training... However most (if not all) gambesons are made for men and therefore, if I get the right dimensions to fit my chest, it tends to be big in the shoulders/long sleeves and will not fit around my hips.

That being said, I'm not quite ready to make my own even though I have a pattern and I'm not able to spend obscene amounts of money on a custom made gambeson.

My question is this: is there anyone in the WMA, SCA, historical arms and armor world that makes regular production gambesons for women?
You could try Armour Archive: http://forums.armourarchive.org
It has a Classified/Want add section.
Armour archive is a good site with many helpful people.

There is also the Girls club: http://www.createforum.com/thegirlsclub/
I understand it is a Female centric SCA combat site, but I do not know anything else about it, cause I am a guy :). Note: It popped up with one of those, "You have been randomly selected click me" links when I briefly looked at it. I believe its a legit site, but with "free" hosting.

I would recommend getting in touch with Jessica Finley as she makes custom Medieval Wresting Uniforms as well as Gambisons and her prices are reasonable and quality of work is high.

When I had my Wrestling Uniform made it was modified to be useable as light under armour support and as a light sparring garment.

Jessica can also make a true gambison and make it to your exact measurements since each garment she makes is made to measure for the specific client and not an " off the rack fits most " thing

Contact information:

Inquiries about custom made uniforms/gambesons can be directed at Jessica:

jessicafinley21 at gmail.com

or by calling her at 785-256-0205.

I highly recommend her work and the ordering and design process was very pleasant and efficient with great customer service.

Note: She is also a member here on " myArmoury " although she doesn't post comment very frequently.
Jean, if you don't mind my asking, how much did your modified wrestling jacket cost?
Another option is Thomasz Slebioda from Matuls. He makes really nice linen gambesons at a very reasonable price. Many people in our WMA group use his gambesons.

That would be $250 not counting shipping.

Remember this was custom work and less expensive than some " off the rack " product out there and it fits perfectly.

Just e-mail or phone Jessica and ask for current prices and wait times and discuss what you want in the gambison, she can then give you a quote and estimated delivery date as well as discuss and recommend design/style/period issues.

Also you are looking for a gambison that will fit well for a woman and Jessica should be able to relate to the issues that make something tailored for a man won't be very comfortable for a woman or at least not optimized for a woman. ;)

Hope that this is helpful. ;) :D

Oh, this is also a Jessica Finlay site ( facebook ) and another way to reach her. ;) :D
I'll put in a second plug for Matuls. That's where I got my gambeson made to measure.
