Hi guys,
looking for some nice pictures of Migartion period shields that are found in the īGermanicī lands.
Does anybody know anything about colours, shapes and colours? Especially colour designs... Want to make some round shields that fit in the 4th/5th century AD for some Frisian Germanics.. But don't have much inspiration on the colour and the pattern.
'The cruels and threachery of civilization, that is barbaric!', said the free Frisian to his son..

Most were round, some oval and some were elongated hexagonal similar to celtic shield tradition. I've seen some illustrations I''l try to find again.
This could be a start, though the Osprey book series may contain inaccuracies or free reconstructions of color and form for shield painting.

This is one from the National Museum in Copenhagen, IIRC within the period you're looking for, or slightly earler:
And a few more 3rd-4th century shields from Denmark:

Thanks for posting the shields. I don't think I have seen those before. Any info on the construction? Very curious about that rim.
