That boar is amazing. I'm sure the rest of the helm will be even more incredible.

Waiting with baited breath.

Hope you enjoy.

You guys have have the best gear I have seen of that period.
I found your FB page when I decided to change my rus-gear (because everyone are doing rus) to a more west oriented gear. The things you do stunned me and has pushed myself to a new level for me. Thanks for that.

Aaanyway. Here is a couple of pics of my gear. Ignore the glasses and the shoes on the first picture as I was working (standing up for 8 hours straight with leather soles on gravel - not comfy).

Stuff on the horizon:
New pants, from a lovely, soft undyed wool (no chemicals used during its making).
New helmet, as my old is to new.
New scabbard and sword, as my old are to new.
New boots, as my old has a drainage hole underneath (kinda sucks during wet weather).

Looking good Karl -- I am sorry for not replying sooner -- somehow I didn't see this before. I am looking forward to seeing the new additions that you are getting. Please keep us informed. Thank you for your kind words.

There may well be plenty of Vendel madness in Uppsala, Sweden next May.

Quite a few members of the group have booked their flights and accommodation as we plan to walk the mounds of Old Uppsala in costumes from the Vendel period. As we are flying we won't have all of our kit -- no shields, no spears and no furs -- (some customs services are very sensitive about them). If you are in the area it would be nice to see you. Further information will follow in due course.

We may have one or two new bits of kit with us, provided all goes to plan.

This thread is going to cost me a fortune.

I have just bought Woden's Warriors today after reading this thread and looking at some face book pages.

I am now wondering if there are any other books or information available which detail the grave finds of the Valsgarde burials, especially numbers 7 and 8, preferably something with illustrations or photographs?

Craig,

The great Greta Arwdisson (to whom those who study this period owe so much) managed to document and publish three of the Valsgarde burials between 1942 and 1977

Valsgärde 6 (1942) Almqvist & Wiksells Boktryckeri-A.B. Uppsala
Valsgärde 8 (1954) Almqvist & Wiksells Boktryckeri-A.B. Uppsala
Valsgärde 7 (1977) Berlingska Boktryckeriet. Uppsala

Whilst some of the reconstructions (particularly that of the splinted armour from V8) have subsequently been shown to be inaccurate, they're still the best books we have when it comes to images and technical details of the elements from these burials.
Hard to find, and not cheap when you do find them.

You can see some of the pieces in this album on my photobucket page:-

There will be many, many more to see after Wulfheodenas make our pilgrimage to Sweden next year.

Hi Paul,
Is there some kind of "happening" in Uppsala at that time? Like a market or celebration of some kind.
And are you planning on meeting any swedish groups. Or are you just going for your own pleasure :-)

/Viktor
Living in Stockholm, only 45 minutes from Uppsala.
Hi Viktor,
We are doing some work for the university and then have asked for permission to walk the mounds in kit, probably the day after.
There is no festival, it is just for us and, perhaps a few Swedish friends and any of the public who are there. It may be that the museum will want to make an event of it -- it will be a weekday, though.

I will keep you informed of developments. It would be very good to meet you.

Best,

Paul
Paul, at what dates will that happen? I'd like to drop by,maybe bring some of my Vendel stuff along too, but that means getting on ferry to go out there from Riga, and would be handy to know in advance...
Hi Artis, as soon as I know for sure I will let you know. It will be good to meet you.

For those who follow this thread you may be interested in taking a look at the Wulfheodenas Facebook page where recently we have been placing many images of artifacts from this period, which also includes arms and armour and a number of images taken during a recent Swedish visit by a Wulfheodenas friend.

Here is an update on my soft kitt.
The house in the background is the large viking hall at Ale in Sweden.

Hi Karl. Your kit is looking very good and you seem to be very comfortable in it. The next time we come to Sweden, it would be good if we could meet you. Do you live in Ale Municipality?

Paul
Thanks!
I'm pretty happy with it. Next step is making a warkaftan and a blunted seax for fighting. Hopefully I will get the blade at Foteviken later this month.

I live in Gothenburg witch is 20-25 min away from Ale (http://www.alevikingagard.info/ or http://openarchaeology.info/venues/ale-vikingagard-se) by car.

I'm slowly getting somewere. The soft kitt is mutch better, although I have no good photos of it. The hard is coming along with a seax based on the Bjärs finds and this week I have gotten somewere on the shield:

The seax can be found a bit down here: http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=20509&start=88
Looking pretty sweet. Slow and steady is the way to get good results.
Finaly a updated pic of my clothing, as it is a never ending project there are still things left to do. Tablet wowen bands and new leg wrappings are next on the list.

Constructive criticism are mutch appreciated.

The pictures is taken inside the "Wolf Clamp" (the gap from the movie Ronia, the Robber's Daughter) as we were visiting the viking market at Hornbore in Tanum parish.
