Nicolle's Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era has some interesting Italian artwork from that time period. There is a bas-relief of a knight on the Bargello in Florence that shows him with some sort of scale gauntlets. They are cuffed, so I don't think they are mufflers. It's dated right around 1300-1320.

Thanks Michael scale one be an interesting option since scale items are something I could make myself.
