Just out of curiosity, i've been wondering if whether having only a single edge means that hand and a half or two hand sabers would be used in a way that would be fundamentally different than regular double edged longswords? I haven't been able to come across any references to them in what few translated texts i've seen so any information anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

If we're talking about European examples, then it would appear that most such long-handled sabres had at least a short false edge that would have allowed the user to perform most techniques available to the double-edged longsword. Techniques for one-handed, double-edged swords were also quite similar to those taught for one-handed, single-edged messers. So no problems there, at least none that I can see from the perspective of somebody who has never owned or played around with a two-handed sabre....

I was at the Wallace Collection today, they have a number of single edged long swords in differing grip and guard configurations. All the blades have some degree of false edge. I couldn't see anything that would indicate that they were used in a fundamentally different fashion to the double edged weapons.
