Buying armour?
Hello.

I'm considering buying an armour from the armourer Tomasz Samuła, owner of "Tomala armourie"
http://www.tomala.lublin.pl/index.php?strona=contact&lng=eng

Does anyone have any kind of experience with him and his work?

Please post me! :)
It seems a little costly...
Haven't you loocked for some other armourer? :D

Actually, it seems pretty fair considering he works tempered steel not mild steel. The form of the various pieces shown are quite good, and show much variety in his work. I have no personal experience with him but he seems to make nice looking armour at reasonable prices for the work. You get what you pay for!
Ya, The quality seems very good. And IIRC the emblem he has on the top right, the helmet with the cross was the cross of Lorenz Helmschmied, one of the greatest armourers ever. Simply having it there means he has done at least a little research (besides the quality of his work).
No experience with him but he was on my short list at one point. It can be hard to tell from photos but if you spend some time looking at photos of period collection armour you will start to noticing some things that he seems to get.
Thanks! It's really helpful :) It is a lot of money to use, if I don't get what I pay for.

Hi everyone. I know Tomasz Samula very well and I can say that it's the best choise if you order armour made by him.
Try, zbroje.cz,guy called Mojmir, and prices re really good,as products looks also good, but,i never tryed them.I will order a 17th cent. full armour blued, cause,i want to try him,as,i know,he is working or shops, that re reselling his goods, that is why prices are good. And he is very available,he does reply fast, and with ideas.

Comparing these two armourers it's a joke. See quality of each item at both websites. Somebody who's got eyes will see how big difference is beetwen these armourers. Comparing prices have sense when we're comparing similar things.

At the end of this year I'll have my second armour made by Tomala because I was convinced by the quality of the first one.

My first armour:

If you compare the Tomala's armours to others you will remark:

- Very good quality (size, rivets, polishing, leather ....), no problems with corrosion
- They are a little bit heavier than other armours or armour parts I own (Bestarmour, Arma Bohemia, St. George Armory)

The communication is also very good, the only problem is: He's very busy. Every time I ordered something I had to wait more than 6 months and there were some delays ... but nothing to worry about.

Have to agree with Mike. Tomala's stuff looks much, MUCH better. Shaping and form of components is just wildly different compared to the other guy. Might be a reflection of skill, might be a reflection of intent, but Tomala is clearly going for working reproduction and it shows in the shaping and details. The other guy seems to be working more towards tourist trade, and it shows in the lack of shaping, and it shows the lack of attention to details.
