My turn is here on Barta's list and my sword is being made!
Long time myArmoury members have heard me bring this up from time to time so it is good to announce that the ball is finally in motion.
It is to be an "inspired by" sword of XI.5 in Oakeshotts Records. I don't believe that Barta will be sending progress shots but if he does then I will post them.
Ever since purchasing Oakeshott's "Archeology of Weapons" in 95 or 96 I have been intrigued by this sword.
The blade is to be a iron core with steel edges and +GECILINMEFECIT+ and +INNOMINIDOMINI+ inlayed on each side respectfully. The hilt will be iron and the tea cozy "mushroom shaped" pommel will be covered in gold.
I am excited!

I was looking at Oakeshott's, Records and I got confused as to which was XI.5 or XI.6. The description, especially concerning the pommels was kind of muddled.
Is your sword the one where each side of the guard ends in simple beast heads?

Yes, that's the one and it is confusing.
There is actually a better picture (full length) in Sword in Hand on page 38. Still there don't seem to be any really great pics of this sword.

Well I'm sure the wait will have been worth it and it's the sword of a life time type project unless one is very rich and can afford to have more than one made.
This is more high art than just a sword.
You can easily give up your freedom. You have to fight hard to get it back!

Yes, I know what you mean, I still may get back on his waiting list after this project is done.
Five years is a looong time to save. I guess the problem is not touching the money as one goes along. Fortunately, I was successful!
It may also be noteworthy that Barta's prices have gone up a bit in five years so locking in this five-year-old price gives me a really great deal! Plus, the euro is in bad shape which isn't good for most folks but does benefit me in this exchange.

I would be jealous if my spot in his line was not here in January too! Happy days! Records XI.5 is a great sword to have him make. He will really do it justice. I can't wait to see some pictures of it! Congratualtions!!!

Yes Tim,
So You are having the sword in your avatar made correct? Is this a model already on his site or will this be a new one?
Then we will both have some show and tell! Barta's Viking swords are beautiful!
