Please teach me about the Battle of Guinegate (1513)

Hi :)

I want to know about the Battle of Guinegate.
The Battle of Guinegate is called a Battle of the Spurs. There are very few pages about the Battle of Guinegate... :(
In many pages, the process of the fight is not written only with the origin of the name... :( :(

The town of Therouanne capitulated soon after the battle, and later in the campaign of 1513, Henry VIII of England captured and garrisoned Tournai.

The armor of gendarme is very thick.
Did these arrows penetrate a armor of gendarme? (Or did they aim horses?) :?:
It is famous that many gendarmes were killed at Battle of Pavia. (They were surrounded and were not able to charge.)

I cann't find a detailed page of "Battle of Guinegate".
I want to know the details of the battle.
Will you teach it? :?:

Its really hard to find any detailed information about this battle. But this seems to be mostly because it wasnt so much of a battle. If my understanding of these events is right then french tryed to deliver supplies to besieged Therouanne but were greeted with artillery and longbowmen prepared against them so they decided to retreat. Imperial and english cavalry followed and changed it to rout. There were almost no dead on the french side just about 100 prisoners many of them of note.

Other interpretation Ive seen was they retreated to lure enemy out of his defences.

Maybe someone correct any errors in this description. :) It seems arrows didnt even have a chance to show what they can do against french armour as they retreated without any attempt to attack or break into the city.

Nope. You got it right for the most part. This "battle" appears to have been scarcely a battle at all, and the only reason why it's called a "battle" is some skilful propaganda by the English. Otherwise it would have gone down in history as one of those days when a battle nearly happened but didn't.
