I think if I ever get a good quality harness assembled I'd like it passed on.
After the funeral they could put me in one of those Hanwei or GDFB Gothic suits.
Then place me on a tall pyre on a high hill under the stars and send me to the gods.
(My first post by the way .)

Quite a way to post for the first time, an in such an odd and morbid thread too!

Here is a link to the vidoe taken of Paul Allen's funeral.
Paul was a member of several reenactment groups & I think was well loved by all, he is sorely missed.

He was burried in a wicker coffin in full saxon equipment.

There are writings that rumor the Sinclair Earls were interred with their armor in Rosslyn Chapel, but since the vault hasn't been opened in the last 350+ years, I don't think it can be called fact. Especially since everything Sinclair/Rosslyn gets hit with the conspiracy stick.

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I missed this earlier.
Oh, I fully agree with the sentiment. I told my family more than a decade ago that I'd want to be buried with "knight's honors" as I put it. As to which set of armor and which sword, I don't know. But there's enough here that I could be laid to rest with something nice and still sell the bulk of it in an estate sale or something.
Personally, I think it's a pretty classy way to go.

Hello All,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's wasn't the practice to bury a knight in armour during the middle ages, that was a pagan custom that predates the Middle Ages.
The Christian custom became the effigy showing the knight in armour but it's not what he was laid to rest in.
So guys, time to bring the effigy back.
Cheers,
David

well i had my burial planned to the last but seems as though outdoor cremation ie pyres are illegal in Ireland so i cant have the burial i wanted which is a shame. i have discussed it with my other half and she agreed that if i go i will be buried in my kit and armour not in a casket but on my shield with one of my bows.
i want to be buried with one of my swords but if i have kids i want to leave my best ones to them.
having an effigy would be kinda cool but getting a decent mason to make one would be hard.
i plan for either a simple stone one else a burial cairn or possibly a passage tomb that way it could become a faimly mausoleum if they wanted or else left buried.
or could go full out viking get buried in one of my boats have my woman strangled and buried with me along with my prized horse or car and all my money. lol
for here starts war carrion birds sing, and grey wolves howl

I believe you're right, but that doesn't change my plans.
