The Eagle
New film trailer posted on Apple http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/theeagle/
Looks fun if nothing else.
It looks pretty sweet to me :D
I've been waiting for this trailer since Sean mentioned it in this thread: http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?p=194346#194346
I belive his wife is a Roman era archaeologist so I've been looking forward to this movie. The trailer looks historically believable to me and I was looking for more when it ended, so I'll pay my fare at the ticket booth on this one.
This looks (so far) better than "Centurion". Can't wait to see it.

Although... is it just me, or do the Picts here look like NE Woodland Native Americans of the Colonial era...? Maybe that's intentional....? Or I'm just seeing things....?

That would be sort of a yes, they do look sort of Native American or at least inspired by them. :?: :wtf:

Generic primitive body decoration could be similar over time and different cultures ? I don't think we have much of an idea about how the Picts looked like in any detail except for the whole blue woad and tattoos maybe ? ( But I could be wrong here and making assumptions ).

Or a few canoes worth of Iroquois ended up being blown across the ocean ?

I will probably go see it and hope for the best i.e. first a good story, second good acting and production values and if it's historically ridiculous I'll just judge it on the merits of a good or bad " fantasy " yarn while hoping for something better historically.
I try to view things like the Picts in this preview through the eyes of ancient historiographers / ethnographers. Do they look like the real Picts did? Probably not... but I wouldn't put it past a Roman to imagine the Picts like the painted savages in this preview.

I grew up on these books (Rosemary Sutcliff) - after watching the preview, I'm guardedly excited.
Looks good to me. Never heard about it before now;-)
