To link to what Hadrian had mentioned, I hope that I can sneak in a bit vague and way too broad question:
What is know about such bluing, or "antiquing" (another finish popular in modern replicas) in period swords? Let's say 1100 - 1450 in general feudal Europe, to not make it too broad.
From what I saw in originals, hilts and pommels quite often do look different than the blade, with perhaps less "polished" and darker finish.
Can't really say if it's a result of how it was made, of their use, or acutally effect of lying unused trough the years, so that's why I'm asking.
Most modern reproductions seem to have hilt looking quite similar to the blade in shine etc.
