Today we had a visitor who pracitces Japanese swordsmanship for not too long. He used to cut tatami at dojo and sparred with boffers. He came over to try out test cutting on newspapers rolls and sparring with RSW.

He used to cut tatami mat, and thought the newspapers rolls would be the same. He cut the 2.5" roll first, then try the 3" roll. He found that newspapers rolls were a lot more difficult to cut than the tatami mat at his dojo.

And I finished the 4" roll that I prepared for him.

I sparred with him.

My student sparred with him.

Hi Lance!

Fun stuff as always! I have fond memories of that rooftop - long live the Sunday Butchers!

RSWs are still going strong here - such great training weapons.

Take care,

Mark

Wow! I'm glad to hear that they're still lasting after 3 years! You must be really good with your techniques! I found out that technical users usually resulted in a longer-lifespan RSW. :P

It's probably more the case that I'm not out in a park in HK every Sunday with an 'Allcomers welcome' sign! Razz

But seriously, folks, if you haven't handled an RSW, they're well worth it: full-contact, full-speed, minimal armour sparring with swords that are individually weighted to handle like the real thing ... they're a beautiful thing!

And, if you're ever in Hong Kong, look Lance up and go and train on that rooftop ...
