Pictures/photo/information on the atgeir
Let me preface this by stating that I'm not a historian nor do I practice Western/Historical martial arts. So please forgive me if I sound like an idiot. I've done a little reading on Dark Ages Scandinavia (Vikings) and more than once have come accross the mention of a weapon called an "atgeir" (at least that's how I think it is spelled). I can't find any visual representation of it though, just that it was some sort of proto-halberd or glaive.

Does anyone here have more information, perhaps an image they can post -- or at least point my feet down the right path?

I thank you all in advance
Bad news: Nobody has any pictures or examples for you. That's something mentioned in the sagas but never found. It isn't the only example of a weapon talked about but nary an historical example to be found, see here: http://www.hurstwic.org/history/articles/manu...eapons.htm

The way I see it is that we can consider such things fictional additions by the "authors" or simply rare weapons that just plain didn't make it to today. I have no particular preference for either option and don't want to argue for either of them.
