17th Century Munition Swords
Hi, I'm having difficulty posting any attachments larger than 250 KB - any hinis? I have about thirty varjor, dussagen, proto-mortuary and basket hilt swords, all in various stages of manufacture but all awaiting polishing and the attachment of turk's heads 9(if I can ever perfect the things in fuse wire).

Nice swords!

Are they originals or reproductions?
I think they are his creations. Nice swords.
Mostly stuff I've ground from spring and mild steel, I'm probably going to get rid of anything I've bought (Hanwei mortuarys and rapiers) although in the case of the sidesword blades I'm tempted to use them and save myself the trouble of grinding spring steel - a real swine of a job!

I really like the functionality of English and N European weapons of the early to mid 17th C. , they're well within the bounds of anyone with pretty basic skills and equipment to make. Thus far I've made about six proto - mortuarys, three basket hilts, a number of hangers (about ten) and a couple of Swedish ''varjor'' as well as a fair go at a Pilgrim Hall sword.

I'll try and post some pics when I've resized them.

I do like the curved hanger....trading in these yet ?
Not Trading!
Unfortunately not David, they're all for a small exhibition I'm planning when finished.

More Proto-Mortuary and Basket Hilt pics (not for sale)
Inspired by Sean Flynt's fine conversion( ''My New Proto-Mortuary Sword'') I thought I'd have a go at making a couple from scratch - what fun! These are some of the swords I've made for a planned exhibition. Not a single one is actually finished yet, but some are getting there. These have eaten up my spare time for upwards of a year, its been a steep learning curve but I'm now reasonably satisfied that I can achieve something like the quality inherent in a munition-grade sword from the 17th C.

I've a fair bit of wiring, polishing and sharpening to do yet, but see this as a good way to spend any winter evenings when I'm not in the pub.
