Hello Everyone

I've been wanting to try my hand at sword making. I have read all types of books, but I am unclear as how to do the heat treatment of the sword. I know that you heat the steel and then cool it, but I need to know if you repeat this and if so how many times. I also would like to know what would be safe temp. to use when you are not sure of the steel being used.

All help with this matter will be greatly appreciated

While I am not an expert there are many sites and books that cover it.

Here are a few to start you with:

http://www.engnath.com/public/manframe.htm

http://users.netonecom.net/%7Eswordman/SwordM...eating.htm

http://larianlequella.com/making.html

There are also a number of places that you can send your work off to be heat treated. Hope this gives you some place to start. Many fine sword smiths and knife makers frequent this forum as well and may be able to give you better advise.
