Well, look at that!

That's cool! The inlay looks great! I don't know why the fuller seems to be pattern welded but the inlay is still fabulous!

Thanks so much for sharing!

Also why is it double fuller on the +GECILINMEFECIT+ side? Interesting.

I don't see a double fuller, maybe shadow tricked you?

Btw, I would love to see more pictures of this replica if possible, please? Wink

Well now that I look at it you must be right,

But look at the side with GICELINMEFECIT- the inlay only takes up one half of the fuller width. The finish also seems different on each side of the fuller. I don't get it. I have never seen a fuller/inlay like this.

Lol, I'm pretty sure you're seeing the shadow underneath as a blade flat since the inlay seems to take up the whole fuller on both sides to me.
Here are some more pics on the maker's site.

Hope this helps,

Hey Jeremy, here's another pic that you may or may not have seen.
It's found in Ian Peirce's The Development of the Medieval Sword, c. 850-1300 article.
Unfortunately he is almost as unhelpful as Oakeshott, saying it "even now handles most beautifully", but giving no specs etc.
He does say that recently (c. 1988) he was able to handle/photograph it due to the generosity of Mr. Peter Dineley, the original finder's son. It's not much to go on, but it might give you something to go on as far as finding the owner.
I hope this helps,
Dan

P.S. Sorry for the poor photo quality......it's not great in the article and I'm sure my scan didn't help.
