Type XVI Arming Sword (2010-029)





Oakeshott Type: XVI
Overall Length: 39-3/4 inches
Blade Length: 33-5/8 inches
Blade width @ Base: 2-3/32 inches
Blade Width 3 inches from point: 3/4 inch
Blade Thickness @ Base: .238 inch
Blade Thickness 3 inches from Point: .105 inch
Blade Thickness at tip of fuller: .123
Hilt Overall Length: 6-1/8 inches
Length of Handle: 3-7/8 inches
Guard type: 1 (curved)
Pommel Type: J
Center of Gravity: 4-1/2 inches from guard
Location of Blade Node (measured from Guard): 22-1/4 inches
Primary Hilt Node: approx. 1/2 inch from cross on handle
Weight: 2lbs 8 oz
Arming sword Circa 1275-1350 AD. Blade is 5160 spring steel hardened to HRc52-53, then selectively drawn down to HRc45-48 through the shoulders and tang. The blade features a 'bright' finish and a 'rolled' convex edge without secondary edge bevels. Pommel is Mild Steel. Guard is 5160 spring steel. The handle is sandwiched hardwood wrapped in linen cord and covered with a brown leather with a central riser. The tang is riveted over the top of the pommel. This sword is provided with a brown leather scabbard reinforced at the throat and chape.
