Sticks and stones...
Sometimes you just need to blow off some steam. So I went down to the beach and slinged stones for about an hour today.

I forgot how much fun it was. About five years ago I knitted a sling out of some old hemp cording I had, and the neat thing about it is it has this natural springyness about it. With little effort I sent stones 100'+ out into the sea. Then (after a few misfires sent me scurring for cover) I started to think about the effectivness of the simple sling, and how underestimated it is. I would give this 5 stars for anyone who is ambitious enough to make one.

I don't normaly post on forums anymore (SF has me jaded), but I was just so tickled to find an old toy giving such simple fun on a hot day. Between finding my old sling and shinai, I'm getting all nostalgic this summer. I'd add a pic of me sling but don't know how.

Just some thoughts in the void...[/img]
Hi Alex...

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the post... I haven't used a sling since I was a kid. It was homemade, but I was also amazed at how fast and hard the stones would fly.

We forget many times those auxiliary troops of slingers and clubbers... The poor folk who wanted to fight but could not afford anything of steel.

I think DaVinci even designed a machine sling. It was like the gattlin gun of slings...

Good to hear from you Alex.
