Good day Happy

Id like to ask if some dont know some greater details concerning performance of french gendarmes at Cerisoles in 1544, like terrain, enemy that they faced, losses, casualties they caused simply anything.

Id appreciate any informations about it or sources to the topic. Happy

There are two very well written modern accounts of Cerisole that I would recommend. The first is a bit dated, but still well worth the read. It's in "History of the Art of War in the 16th Century" by Sir Charles W. C. Oman, and contains many first hand accounts, such as Blaise de Montluc's excellent (if biased) rendering.

The second would be in Bert Hall's "Weapons and Warfare in Renaissance Europe". Well written and well researched, using many of the same resources as Oman, but with a bit different focus.

Most of my own knowledge of the battle comes from these two sources, so I would strongly recommend that you check into them. I'd love to discuss the subject more deeply with you, however!

Cheers!

Id like to discuss as well but I dont feel like I know anything about it at the moment. Publications about western european renaissance warfare are more or less non-existent where I live. Happy

But Im very interested in details of how heavy cavalry was used, trained etc. and any information from someone with practical and theoretical knowledge is good.
