I would say that a helm like that would have been used in earlier torunaments, though it is not specificly designed for that. It looks like more of a combat helm to me...

I'd say it's just an approximation of a great helm. It wouldn't be a good tilting helm (aka jousting) with those breath holes on the left side. A lot of tourney helms did not have breaths on the left side, where you'd receive lance blows.
