Multibar Purpleheart Seax
Another entry level pattern welded piece.

[ Linked Image ]

The blade is a multi bar piece. A 13 layer twist and a 13 layer straight bar with a 1070 edge.
John forged the bars and Kerry welded, forged and ground the blade.
I made the guard and pommel and Kerry finished her up with the handle and brass mounts.
The handle is purpleheart with brass knot work mounts designed by R.E. Piland.
The pommel and guard are polished mild steel.
Appleseed sharp edge
15 1/2 inch blade, 22 inches overall.

As always, comments welcome.

Cheers!
That is AWESOME!!! I have always loved Purpleheart wood. I have a a sword that I changed the grip to purple heart, it would be a great companion piece. However ,since i sent taxes out a couple weeks ago, I don't have the $$.
Color of guard & pommel? The website pics that appear to show steel tone guard & pommel look much better to me.

Regardless, well done.

The original post says, "The pommel and guard are polished mild steel."
Nathan - I read those words before posting. Given the photo's brass-like color it was a request to clarify. Sorry if too terse. (There are treatments that change steel's color. I'd doubt but no hurt clarifying.)

Feel free to delete this post & yours to avoid clutter in his thread, if appropriate. Or pm. My most important comment was Well Done.
Matthew, is it a trick of the lighting or does the geometry of this blade create something similar to a kissaki? The angular shift from illuminated to dark toward the tip is curious.

I can't agree more. All of my personal piece have purpleheart. Even my mini blunder buss that I am having made for me will have a purpleheart stock.

They are highly polished steel. The picture are taken in a japanese maple tree, so there are a ton of colors reflecting.

No. What you are seeing is where the patterned bars stop and the 1070 bar starts. If you look close you can see that there is 2 1070 bars. One that completes the spine and then one along the edge. There is a slight color difference.
