Hi

I believe there is at least one example of a viking age sword scabbard with 'hair on' hide...I'll have time to look up the referance over the weekend and get back on this one.

Regarding bear skin sleeping bags, can't say that I have ever heard of this item, there does however sem to have been a burial use for laying the corpse on bear skins in the pre-viking age. Eider down feather filled sleeping bags would be a better option for sleeping in!

Nope my failing memory has made me imagine things, apparently after seeking some referance to this scabbard a friend, Roland Williamson tells me it was the worls let by the follicles on the leather remnants of the scabbard!
