How sharp
Just a quick question i don't know if this was covered before, but how sharp were medieval swords like the XII,XIIa,XIII and the XVI any info would be great, thanks.
Yes there are at least a couple of Topics discussing this already but just a short " opinion " from me would be that they would be " sword sharp " and not razor sharp: Sword sharp I would define is just a touch duller than paper cutting sharp but not as dull as a butter knife.

I think that this might be an average level of " estimated " sharpness and it does make sense in that extremely sharp edge are more easily damaged, soon get as dull as the sword sharp edges are used anyway, and that it doesn't take a very sharp edge to do the an effective cut.

Now personal preferences, regional difference in preferences, type of sword: A messer might be sharper than a sword as it is just a big knife and knives generally should be as sharp as possible.
Please see this Spotlight Topic: "Sword Sharp".
