Looking for the "William Schollard Collection"
I'm clueless about this collection.

Probably in or around LA, but at least in the USA. Probably an interesting armoury section., incluiding an allegedly iberian medieval helmet, plus a Ripoll pistol (fig 2 of this article). The only published part of it seems to be a book about pewter

Thanks in advance
Hello,
I know (knew) William Scollard. We first met in the late 1970s when I began collecting antique swords: he is a collector/dealer of antiques, especially pewter and weapons. I haven't seen him in over a decade, as I lost touch with him when we moved to Thailand.

He works out of his home in La Habra selling antiques. Enter his name in Google, and you'll get his address and phone number.

I note that the article you referred to is from 1972. Bill has sold quite a few of the pieces in his collection over the years, so I'm not sure how much of his original collection is still intact. He always did like the Spanish colonial period, so he may still retain some pieces from that era.

Hope this helps a bit! --ElJay
Hi.

This is my first comment in myArmoury's forum; although it took several years reading and learning from you all. I'm obviously a fan of medieval reenactment, with a long a way to go.

I know my fellow Iagoba, here in Spain, because both share similar interests. Like him, I am looking for information on William Schollard Collection of Los Angeles (Ca), but data are scarce and difficult to reach.

I am interested, for now, in a reliable and detailed representation of the hispanic helmet; perhaps from the final quarter of the twelfth century, contained in its collection, as says the book of Osprey library: "El Cid and the Reconquista", pag. 33, upper figure.

It is known that in Spain there is no archaeological evidences of any medieval helmet before the fourteenth century, so it is important to us, because it may be a piece unique.

I know this issue has been discussed in other topics (http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=20396), but I'm not fully satisfied because I want a primary source of information before making a decision on the nature of this helmet.

Thanks a lot and best regards.

PS.:Sorry for my poor english.
Hello
Hello, I am William Lawrence Scollard II

My father is 83 now and doesn't like to use computers so I will respond on his behalf. The collection was up to nearly 75 suits of armor at one time so many many things have come and gone, the pewter collection is totally untouched (over 1300+ pieces). The museum in Albuquerque,NM has a large group of his original Spanish arms & armour along with select pieces in varying museum all over the united states. Keep in mind many of his pieces are not attributed to being his collection because they had been purchased not donated. The Particular helmet you had mentioned is gone although I might be able to find where it went. We still have 20 suits of armor and 5 war horses more or less complete along with many other antiques. He mentioned the exact helmet as being very plain but it had been exhibited and liked by John Hayward while at an arms society meeting in Washington D.C. late 1960s. My father also says the Helm is probably in a museum now and can't remember which one he sold it to. I'll do some digging in the course of my other business and see what I find.

Hope this Helps please feel free to email me further

*Mr. Erickson I try to keep track of people who knew my father and how they knew him so I can timeline his dealings and collections could you PM me your relationship to him please? Thank you
Thanks! :D
I even tried to contact by phone but I had no luck back then.
That helmet style is quite well represented in the romanesque art (30+sculptures, probably well over 50) but that is the only real one that probably exists today...
