Excellent book on ancient cavalry
Warhorse: Cavalry in the Ancient World. By Philip Sidnell

I happened to be scrolling through Amazon and came upon Sidnell's book. The premise looked intriuging and so I ordered it.

Sidnell's book offers a comprehensive and detaield examination of ancient and horses, beginning at the time when the horse was first domesticated and ending with the battle of Hastings Sidnells explores ancient cavalry, their appearance, organization, performance, tactics and equipment, and debunks the idea that ancient cavalry were not used in combat and that infantry did the bulk of the fighting. While some of Sidnells discourse on armour weight and sword-handling is dubious and the book is lacking in illustration, his work is lucid, well researched and written. Backed by numerous accounts and real-life experiments Sidnell conclusively proves that ancient cavalry were used in a decisive shock role.

Overall 9.5/10

Get it, it's well worth the money and a must for every researcher of ancient, roman and greek military warfare and history.
