Good tournaments need good judging and good judging takes practice and experience. Hone your skills at judging tournaments and help create the standards by which we can all play.

The Higgins Armory Sword Guild will be hosting a WMA Judging Workshop on April 24th. The workshop will be led by Dr. Ken Mondschein at the Higgins Armory Museum.

The workshop will cover how to direct, score, and judge a traditional or historical fencing bout. Included will be opportunities to fence, direct, and to judge. The emphasis will be on running a tournament bout smoothly. The workshop will first show the classical judging method and then expand it to historical fencing in both a timed and points-based format.

Participants should come prepared with full safety equipment: a minimum of mask, fencing jacket, glove(s), cup, long pants, and shoes. Loaner fencing jackets and masks are available.

The event is on April 24th, 2010, from 12pm to 4pm. The cost is $20 and includes
admission to the museum so when the event is over you can peruse the collection. To register contact the museum at (508) 853-6015 or higgins@higgins.org.
