Is EN45 steel good for a blade?
I am just wondering if tempered en45 carbon steel is decent for a blade. This is not intended for blunt reenactment but to serve as an actual usable sword (i.e. sharpened and usable for cutting, etc).

Thanks,
David
Yep, it's decent... iirc quite a few British smiths use it.
Some opinions here: http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthrea...same-steel
I used to use en45a a lot and it makes really good sword blades - very tough but will still hold a reasonable edge. I only changed to things like SUP6 (the Japanese equivalent grade) as I could no longer get en45a in New Zealand.
is not a steel that provides the same results. its range is somewhat wider
