Does anyone have a Windlass Naumburg sword?
Hello!
I was considering buying this sword, except I saw a short review on MRL's site saying the tang wasn't very strong. I don't know if that one was deffective, or if they're all like that. A review on here was more positive, although it didn't appear to include any use or such. If I got this sword I probably wouldn't actually use it much, if at all. I just don't want to buy a junk sword. If anyone can give any advice on this sword I would appreciate it! :)
I bought 5 of them last year and chopped them around for a Museums job I was doing, so got to see the inside as well as the outside.

The blade was fine, the shoulders were square as you would expect at this price, the tang was OK and general assembly was OK. In the great scheme of things it is not a great sword, but at the price point you would be paying I would say it is good value. If it this sort of sword you want and you have a couple of hundred bucks (less I think) then I would say it is fine.

OK, thanks!
Just to make sure though, is the handle on these made of wood?

(I've heard of more than one Windlass having a plastic grip, although the Effigy sword I got has a wood grip.)
two part wood sandwich, but of a fairly open and soft tropical wood - speed grown pine type density.

hey Tod,

Would you happen to have a few shots of those revamped windlass you would share with us?
Many of us here toy with those entry level blades...I would really love to see what a pro such as you made of it :)

Cheers,

J
