Question about haubergeon
I wanted to make my own haubergeon and was wondering what guage and diam. should each ring be.

Thanks,

Drake
It depends from what period and which region you want you knight to be. Also It depends on your skills as an armorsmith... I'd say you could be reasonably accurate for a wide range period, with rings about 7-8mm (0.27 - 0.31 inches) diameter from 1,2-1,6 mm (18-16 gauge) wire. If you are skilled enough, then you should use slightly flattened and wedge-riveted rings.
If you will use riveted rings then you could use less thick wire, if you will use butted rings, then I'd say 1,4 mm (17 gauge) is the thinnest wire you should use.
Wedge riveting was only done in Germany during a relatively short period of itme. Round rivets were far more common.
What time period range was the wedge riveting done in Germany?
13th - 16th centuries.

I'm not sure whether it is appropriate to point to my own work as a reference.

Dan, if it's as good as this, sure it is!
