Persistence of simple cross hilted sword in the XVIth cent.
Taking a look at some depiction of battlescene of the mid-late XVIth century, i have noted the persistence of simple cross hilted sword well into the end of the century, interestingly in the album section i have found a lot of sword dating from the XVIIth century also with simple cross hilt,

it was a common feature?

it was a specialized pattern? for example carried only by armoured cavalry, or infantry as well?

Do you can guess the reason for such anachronistic pattern persistence into a late period?

Wich kind of blade was used on it? i can guess a type XIX, cut and thrust

further, if you have some close depiction of that kind of sword, i'm interested mainly in examples from the mid-late XVIth

century but XVIIth century examples are also of interest, please share it with me.

thanks for help

The only "simple cross-hilted" sword I know of from the 17th century would be the Claidheamh da laimh, used by the Scottish Highlanders until around the time of the Battle of Killiecrankie. Killiecrankie was the last battle they were known to have been used in any significant numbers.
I'm speaking about single handed sword and specifically i'm interested in examples from central and western europe

(i'm aware that in ireland simple cross hilt persisted for the perio i have cited)
Can you post some links to the pictures you speak of?
