What exactly is a "floating bid" and how does it work?

You're not missing anything here. It's not a standard term used in auctions online or anything like that. It simply means that some donor has said, "I'll give you $150 on any single one of the items should any of them not hit that amount at the close."

Which in practical terms mean that each of the items has a "floor" bid of $150 that you must top if you wish to bid on an item. ;-)

About 2.5 hours to go!!! Here are the current high bids on all the items.

I received the kukri today, and I wanted to say that it is beautiful, and very well done! Michael is very generous for donating it and so many other pieces to Haiti, especially given the challenging economy.
The generosity and selflessness of this act is something that cannot be praised enough. More than being pleased to own more of Michael's work (which is in itself great ;) ), I am glad that I could be part of such an act of charity.

I received the #1 Viking sword the other day, and in record time, only three or four days (I live in Germany). It is truly a work of art, and I'll try and post some pictures soon. Mr. Pikula is a gifted sword smith!
