tartan need help
hi everybody i'm searching for a tartan piece for my spear but i can't find any in my country is ther some place in canada where i could find traditionnal tartan?
Etienne, just Google search for any Highland or Scottish stores near you. They will be able to find you any tartan you need. :D
Any fabricstore should have generic tartan patterns and probably the royal Stewart tartan as well, if you want a specific clan then you'll probably have to order online. Also, if you want wool, you may need to order online as well.
as i thought the tartan made in wool is pretty costy but i think finally i'll go with a cotton one wich color i don't know... maybe black, green and yellow.
http://www.tartanweb.com/ should provide some inspiration...
Hi Etienne,
The Scottish Company on Leslie Street in Toronto should be able to help you, they import tartan cloth from Scotland and make kilts etc so there should be offcuts available. The company is owned by my wife's aunt so I know they stock good quality material.
Regards,
Norman.
Etienne,

Don't know what clan you have in mind, but I have a piece of Hunting Rose (wool) about five feet long. What width?
Mostly green, some black, with red and white crosses. Also free for the asking......

Dan
do you have a picture of it? the width would be of 3 inch.
Tartan

Or did you mean that it was free?
Etienne,
I apologize if off topic.
Someone can tell me what they're called in English the three ropes hanging from the bag? It is known historically as they arise? Incredibly equal to the Byzantine culture.

Maurizio, Lin is correct. In the example you show of the kilted man wearing the black sporran, the three tassles are symbolic - they serve no function other than decoration. In older style sporrans (the purse-like bag), the tassels would be functional - used as drawstrings to close the pouch shut (so your stuff doesn't fall out!). Your example is what we in modern times call an "Evening Sporran", one that is a bit more formal, or dressy. A "Day Sporran" might be brown or black leather, typically with functional tassels (real drawstrings), or might still use symbolic (decorative) ones that appear to be actually functional.

Whew! Being a modern Scot is hard work, what with all the special dressy bits required (and it sure does get expensive).
