My DarkWood Armoury Mortuary hilt backsword
Hello
When I got my sword from, DarkWood Armory, the pearceings kind-of scraped at my nuckles, and the grip wasnt quite gripable, to me.So they made me a grip, that was, very much more, comfortable to me.Allso I laquered the hilt, and I put
leather on the knuckle side, of the guard. Now it handles great and comfee:-) I know that other, basket hilts, of the day, had leather or, such-like liners. My question is. Is there any examples,of Mortuary hilts, with leather liners?

Thanks
No example have I ever seen of a "mortuary hilt" with a leather liner. Your sword I would not classify as a mortuary, it's closer to a Walloon hilt in the guard design.

cheers,

Bill
Hello
Doesnt a walloon have a thumb ring? Does any walloons have liners?

Thanks
I have never seen a Walloon with a liner. However, i don't consider your sword to be a Walloon. I say it belongs to Mazansky's hilt category of side-rings with pierced plates. They usually have thumb rings, but not always. I have never seen one of these types with a liner, though of course, they all could have fallen by the wayside 200 years ago.

If you want my opinion, I think that liner detracts from the looks of the sword. If the piercings scrape your knuckles, wearing a glove could solve the problem.
Hello
You may be right. But I kindof like the spash of color,of the red showing through the piercings.
