Looking for a fencing mask
so i'm looking for a good mask for unarmoured long sword, side sword, etc. I have a retro 3-weapon mask, but I am looking to purchase a new mask. I have notice some people using different types and would like some impute.

thanks
I use a Leon Paul three weapon mask when I fence foil and practice with my saber. It's very comfortable and breathable, and not too expensive either. I would definitely recommend it.
Does anyone have advice on how to modify a 3 weapon mask to work well with controlled longsword sparring?

Mike
Of all the masks I've tried I find the Leon Paul range the absolutely best. Much more tightfitting and comfortable than Allstar for example. But I can promise you it's worth the extra bucks to buy a coaching mask. Especially for sparring. Also buy the leather cover for the mask, it protects the sparrignweapons from scratches from the mesh. I'd reccomend the mask below but it's a bit more expensive than standard masks (unless you want one with a plexi visor) but they can take a beating better.

Check out the rest of the products HERE.
Michael, check with the Hammaborg guys. They have lots and lots of experience from steel sparring. Maybe not that much longsword but I've seen what they do to eachother with sword and buckler...
You may want to take a look at Terry Tindall's masks:

These are a nice bridge between a fencing mask and an actual helmet. They are still lightweight, provide as much vision and breathability as a fencing mask, but are FAR more protective. They cover the back of the head (which fencing masks do not), and they'll take a full powered longsword blow to the scalp, whereas even the best fencing masks will eventually start to dent. I still use a mask for general training (simply because they're easy to put on and take off), and have no issues with doing so, but the Terry Tindall masks are definitely worth looking into for serious steel bouting.

Hello All,

I'd back Bill 100% on a Terry Tindall's mask, however you do have a new choice if you want something that looks more historical...

I really like the pierced visor option myself.

I forgot to reply to this. Terry Tindall (in the link I gave above) also can modify modern fencing masks to have the back covered with a perferated steel plate, just like on his standard masks. This plate is removable. He doesn't have pictures on his site, but I saw a pic of it once, and it looks like a good option for someone who already has a mask and doesn't want to drop down a lot of money for a new one.

No, not the same one that revival.us had. This has been in the work for years with input from people such as Greg Mele and
Christian Tobler. WMAW 09 was the official launch of the product line.

My only "problem" with Terry's masks are that he's a one man show and you do have a to wait a while for your order. He has "the list" posted so you can guesstimate how long until your order is in the production slot. Each mask is a week production time.

Cheers,

DT
