Well shucks! It seems to me we have literally come full circle. Jack, the spiked boarding axe whose picture you posted is such a close cousin to the spiked tomahawk that Old Dominion shows as a sold piece it is almost spooky. For that matter, Old Dominion's rifleman's tomahawk is conceptually so close to one made by Cold Steel that I'm tempted to buy one of the Cold Steel offerings and "gussy it up" with a little grinding and some dark stain or paint..

I'd stay away from the Cold Steel Rifleman's hawk. I have it and it is a boat anchor in handling. Too heavy for the head. I know of people who have modified some of their other hawks successfully, and some of those are good pieces, but I can't recommend the Rifleman's Tomahawk at all from my experience with it.

Actually, as mentioned this "style" axe was "favored" by many.from the 1300s. Such as those in the time of Robt. the Bruce

I can not comment on the CS Axe, as I have never handled..But the "style" is readily aval. ( Naval, "period",MP/ML etc. ) The ?? is qality & balance. Have fun !

Jack
Bryce,

Thanks for the heads up. I should have taken the time to express myself more clearly. The Old Dominion rifleman's tomahawk seems like a close cousin to Cold Steels trail hawk. If I was going to modify one of CS's tomahawks it would be the trail hawk
