Hello Tom,

There is a picture of a reinforced bit in this thread:

The picture is not a top down, but that is effectively what you would see on the pictured example. I'll dig around for some additional images of originals.

Are you concerned about the historical evidence of reinforced edges, or just the diamond cross section in articular?
I'm actually trying to buy one. Most "danish axes" from major companies are built like a woodsmans axe with an extremely thick body or without the reinforcing diamond. So I'm pretty much in your position a year ago Gavin .

I would get one done as a custom job.

Well Eric McHugh made this one, scroll down and you will see it:

I don't think he is still employed at Albion at this time ?

Another person I might contact is Michael Pikula as he is a talented maker who hand forges his work, and his prices are very reasonnable:

OlliN is also a place to look at: http://www.ollinsworddesign.com/osd-custom-DR2.html

The axe shown is more a fantasy piece but they should be able to make a Viking styled axe.

A & A makes a nice Viking axe although in it's standard version it doesn't have the diamond edge you are looking for they could make a custom version that would have the feature you are looking for at extra cost:

Kult of Athena currently has one in stock with " NO " waiting. ( When they say it's in stock, it is, and their customer service including taking it back if you are not happy with it is very good as long as it is shipped back in the same condition you got it ): http://www.kultofathena.com/product~item~AA02...ar+Axe.htm
Tom I recommend Bronze Lion if budget is a constraint.

He built me an axe to my specifications (ok the blade was a little thick at 4mm) for less than I would have paid for some of the cheap mass produced axes on the market, and a fraction of what most of the custom/high end makers are charging.

At the very least, have him give you a quote. I promise you will be pleasantly surprised.
