Greetings all,
I am hoping that someone at there has a couple of decent photos of the massive spear head at the Met ... I want to say it was Iron age Celtic - basically it looked like the later boar spearheads but on a huge scale.
I am looking to have a friend recreate it with pattern welded steel.
Thanks in advance.

Your description is rather vague, so I'm having a hard time figuring out which one you mean. Is it on display in the Arms and Armor section, and if so do you remember the specific gallery? Could it have been in one of the other curatorial departments, by any chance? You really ought to get the accession number off the gallery label so we can look it up on the web.

Good morning,
First off thanks very much for all of your responses.I apologize for the vagueness of my description... I was there 4 years ago - I do not remember the gallery #.It was a bronze or iron spearhead with lugs - again similar to a later boar spear. I went through the gallery of 184 spearheads - there are several where there does not seem to be a picture - It must be one of those as it is not any of the others shown.
Any additional help is greatly appreciated.
Tim

Sometimes they categorize things in an odd way, like the 5th century B.C. "halberds" showing up beside 15th century examples. Sorry it didn't help. Quite likely it's one of the records without a picture.

Perhaps this one labeled as a "dagger or halberd blade 1000-500 B.C." I'm not clear how this would have been hafted.
-A.
edit: Not likely since it is far from "massive".

M. Adair Orr That is a bronze sword or large dagger- scales would have been riveted to the tang I think.

Gabriele A. Pini Thanks very much for your reply - I saw this piece in the Gallery that one of the other Forumites posted ... Sadly this is not the piece I am after ... It had lugs beneath the blade similar to the later Boar spears.

Hello again
So I have compiled a list of Accession #s with any additional information listed from the gallery of spearheads kindly provided previously on this thread. Does anyone know if it is possible for me to contact someone at the Met to see if there are images available for these items ?
Thanks
Tim
