Hey Sergio,

There are a couple of things you can do , assuming you don't have a power hammer, you can either forge in the fuller using top and bottom 'fuller' tools, one for the hardy hole and one on a handle usually, some people prefer to use a smithing magician or a kinda sprung tool that mirrors the function of the top and bottom fullers, you can grind them in using a grinder with a small belt or if it is a narrow fuller I think those can be done with a sort of draw knife.

hope that helps

Matt,
Thanks for the reply Matt!!

I am glad that my line of thought was not wrong!!
I´m traing to make a Type Xa sword, so i´m going for the broad fuller.
I will try to make the sprung like tool, if you or anybody have some more tips or perhaps a guide on how to build such tool i will be verry grateful!! :D
This it , more or less not quite how I would do one , but you get the idea.

Matt

Sprung fuller hardy tool
Thanks for all the help Matt!!

If you don't frown upon the use of power tools, a fuller could be easily created by an angle grinder. The width of the fuller can be controlled by changing the angle between the grinder plate and the blade. Grinder parralel with the blade will result in a very narrow channel, perpendicular in a broad one.

Hi Sergio,

Dave Stephen's jig here looks quite useful: http://www.bladesmithsforum.com/index.php?showtopic=22814
