I'm with you on the XVIIIc. A well-made sword like that would be wonderful.
Thanks for all the good responses. It really helps when trying to decide what to make.
I would love to have a reproduction of our Flamberg that we have in my reenactment group! The blade and pommel are authentic and we've had the cross guard and handle remade.

I want the one that I could spare with and not worry about destroying something from history

I would like to see the sword that Charlton Heston used in EL Cid....when he is dueling his future father in law.
I have seen cheap ones , but I would like to have a really nice one

Well, Here's my .02....

Ancient world swords, especially the following:
An accurate Greek Hoplite Xiphos
An accurate Falcata
A Roman "Ring Hilt Semispatha"
Germanic single-edged sword/early sax
A variety of later Roman/early migration era Spathae
Very early Iron-age sword (late continuations of the Naue II style)

That's what I want to see, anywho. Hey, you asked! :p
I bet that you would have fun making an 18th century cuttoe - especially the hilt

I'll be a third vote for a decent quality grosses Messer. There are so few available which are well-constructed, handle well and are available for less than $1k US.
