I'd like to share with you guys my latest work: a custom scabbard and suspension for a Petersen type Y sword by Jason Dingledine. The scabbard features a hand shaped, wool lined, poplar core covered by hand dyed and tooled veg-tan leather.
The suspension is based heavily on the work of Wilfreid Menghen and Peter Johnsson. I found that this style of suspension holds the sword at a nice angle while keeping it secure. Any comments, questions or suggestions for improvement are welcome.

Another fine looking scabbard and suspension Dan. I was wondering if you have a closeup of the chape by chance? I was also wondering what period the soft kit in the picture is from? The NA summer bbq campaign one? :D All kidding aside, that looks like it would sit very comfortably allowing it to be worn for an extended amount of time.

I thought that was what the kit was. I have to agree that is possibly one of the hardest kits to find proper attire for. Such is life I guess.

Beautiful! That long top buckle on the scabbard is of special interest to me. I've never seen one of those before, but imagined something like that to explain the scabbard suspension shown below, ca. 1500 (albeit on the back of the scabbard and possibly integral to the locket).

Thanks for the comments guys, it's always nice to have someone appreciate the time you've spent. As far as the chape....no I did not make it. I sourced it from a craftsman who is much better at bronze-casting than I ;)

All well done. Like the simple, sturdy strapping everywhere. Also appreciate the pics of suspension in action.

Were all the metal pieces custom cast, bronze? They all look interesting. If you have more closeups, at least hang onto them if not post.

I got home from a trip to find this scabbard waiting for me. What a great piece of work it is! Dan's attention to detail is outstanding. The scabbard hangs perfectly for me making drawing the sword a joy. The sword fits very snugly into the scabbard. Thanks to Dan for making such a great piece! I can't wait to see his next work!
