Trying to locate some means of suspending a warhammer i made for a friend. Horsemens hammers or warhammers usually show up held or 'swung' in the arts, so if anyone has any period (~1400-1500) depictions of a warhammer being suspended to the person/belt/etc id be greatful if you would be so kind as to post em here.

The ring or loop solution appears to have been common in Germany/Austria in the late 15th and early 16th c. You see it in that image from IMAREAL and in Dürer as well. Long-hafted hammers were common in this culture/period, too. Those are the length of a walking cane, and often shown held that way, hand on the head, hammer face forward, iron-shod foot on the ground. Search the IMAREAL site for "streithammer" and "hammer" and you'll get some good ideas (you'll get hundreds of images, so be sure to let the page load before viewing any--otherwise the page will have to reload every time you view one).

Or just open the images in new tabs/windows. Imareal is a fantastic resource, I'd like to encourage everyone to take a look there.

Im ofcourse already all too familiar with imareal, many hours "lost" searching for odd stuff..;) As you can see the attached image is from there, but this is the only one i could find of a suspended warhammer there and in my archives. So if anyone has come across artwork with worn warhammers feel free to guide me in the right direction.
