The prototype is approved for production!! Several Notes, one of which is the color of the leather; Paul tells us that this is color Number 2. Everyone that has seen it so far agrees that 'Number 2" is a very appropriate name. The leather on the handle and scabbard will be brown- but it will be a darker brown that looks less like... well... Number 2.

When I re-weighed the sword that I have on-hand that was modeled after the prototype the weight came to 3-3/4 pounds. This one is a bit heavier- but the COG is a bit closer to the hilt and we (my wife, apprentice Jasson and I) all agreed that it was by no means awkward or heavy feeling. Basically the difference in weight and COG is caused by the convex distal taper- there is virtually no distal taper for the first ten inches measured from the hilt. This adds weight but reduces the sword's polar moment so it still handles well.

I also have to say that if they reproduce the edge geometry of this sword on the production sword- and as much as we've been bitc... er... complaining I am confidant that they will- then folks are going to be very happy indeed. This sword cuts like crazy!

The subtle detail of the guard has been well reproduced, the pommel is quite nice, the balance, handling and harmonics are all excellent. Once they change the color of the leather I think this one is going to be a winner!
I'm sold. And I even like the leather color. :)
