Another unknown dagger – beautiful and may be middle age!
Another unknown dagger – beautiful and may be middle age!

Here you see a photo of a dagger from a private collection.

Description:

Length overall: 41 cm/ 16,13 inches

The blade is badly corroded, grip is made by bones. Pommel made by bronze. Three bands of silver are inlayed.
The crossguard and langet are may be a bronze-cast. Crossguard ends in stylized heads of (not identified) animals.

Of course, it was the dagger of a rich or/and noble man. One idea of the owner is: The dagger is from 14th century, may be from northern Europe? Scandinavia?

What do you think? Who knows a similar dagger?

Kind regards

Nice one.
In Peterson's Daggers and Fighting Knives of the Western World, no.26 is pretty similar, though having a different pommel. Blade, gaurd and decoration technique appear very close. It is stated as 14th century Burgundian heraldic dagger.
Hello Sa'ar,

much thanks for answer.

It took a few days for searching. Do you mean a dagger like these ones?

Another example see on http://www.hermann-historica.com/
recent auction, No 53, Lot 2216.

kind regards

Hi Sabine. Yes, I think they are, no. 3 & 4 from the left on your photo in particular. But, the small cup/pommel on your first post is different and must be taken in consideration.
